In the mid-1800's, the California Gold Rush brought thousands to the west in search for a great fortune. One of the most lucrative gold-bearing areas in Southern California was the San Bernardino Mountains. Old Miner's Days offers a historic and humorous homage to this famous era in American history. Throughout the summer, fun activities, events, games, parades and festivities are held throughout Big Bear Lake. Many of these events are only a brief drive, or leisurely stroll from your Big Bear Frontier cabin or hotel suite.
Doo Dah Parade
Nonsense and bizarre hilarity best describes the Doo Dah Parade in Fawnskin. Participants dress up as "dairy queens" in cow suits, men in nun outfits, knights of the roundtable, cowboys, polka tenors and a barrage of other inventively wacky ensembles. One year the "Dolly Llama" even showed up - a llama wittily named Dolly. Be sure to get there early to claim your spot because the parade is only three blocks long and lasts about an hour.
Loggers Jubilee
After the Doo Dah Parade, head over to the Pederson Saw Mill for the ludicrous Loggers Jubilee. Watch, or compete in a number of events including: log sawing, pole scaling, tomahawk tossing and the ever-popular log rolling competition. For the youngsters, they can partake in the seed spiting and nail hammering events.
Children's Events
Bring the kids to Sugarloaf Park in Big Bear City to partake in a variety of fun games and contests including: speedy sack sprints, whimsical wagon races, buck saw championships, a watermelon eating contest and much more.
Chili Cook-off
Sample an assortment of delicious homemade chili. Each year, 40 cooks from all over the southwest travel to Big Bear Lake to compete for the honorable title of chili cook-off champ. This all-day event offers a bounty of family fun, games, contests, live music, entertainment and some of the tastiest chili out there.
Old Miners’ Days Parade
Ever since 1949, when cartoon voice virtuoso Mel Blanc was the first Parade Grand Marshall, this has been Big Bear's most popular event for residents and travelers alike. Every year local organizations and participants cruise down Big Bear Blvd in their snazzy floats with inventive themes to try and win the trophy for best ensemble.
The Old Miner's Days Parade, only a few minutes away from Big Bear Frontier Cabins is a splendorous occasion for all ages.
