The Big Bear Discovery Center, located in Fawnskin on the other side of Big Bear Lake, offers a variety of fun activities that show visitors a walk-through glimpse of Big Bear Mountain and the San Bernardino National Forest.

Mountain Explorations
The premiere exhibit named "the Mountain" takes visitors through a miniature replica of the forest, replete with conifer trees, rocks, plant life and even a life-size grizzly bear. Along the way, find out how Big Bear Mountain was formed thousand of years ago with the help of the San Andreas Fault. During the days of the Gold Rush, gold was abundant in the surrounding streams and waterfalls. Learn about how these lands brought many a great fortune.

Big Bear Lake
In the late 1800's, Big Bear Lake was created to provide a lucrative water source for local residents. "The Lake" details how this influenced the progression of the town from the 19th century into the 21 st. Visitors are also introduced to a variety of local wildlife that live along the shore.

Family Discovery Room
There are a variety of family activities for the kids to enjoy including: digging for limestone in the cavernous mines; building a sturdy log cabin; making dams just like the beavers; and inspecting insects in giant hollow logs.

The Amphitheatre
From September to May, the Amphitheatre hosts dances, theatre shows, campfires, musical performances and an annual gala held ever summer. It has also become a popular meeting spot for local organizations.

The Adventure Outpost
For the shopping extraordinaire, the Adventure Outpost offer 2,700 square feet of memorable keepsakes. It's the perfect place to pick up that grizzly bear souvenir to remember your trip by. Kids can peruse an assortment of games, toys and hand-puppets. The View Café offers an assortment of sandwiches and snacks.

For Bird Lovers
October thru March offers the perfect opportunity to see the golden and bald eagles, as these majestic birds flock to Big Bear Mountain. For optimal viewing be sure to have your binoculars.
